Simple Shariah Nikah Held in a Mosque
Waseem Akram Quraishi
Jaipur. Rajasthan.
The campaign against dowry is gaining momentum in the Qureshi community of Rajasthan. Senior members and prominent figures of the community are setting examples by refusing dowry in their children’s marriages. As part of this movement, senior social worker and businessman Chuttan Qureshi, a resident of Jhotwara, set an example by organizing his daughter Alima’s marriage on the principle of No Garden, No Dinner, No Dowry. Continuing this initiative, the Islahe Muashra Committee of MD Road has been organizing several simple Nikah ceremonies in mosques. Office bearers of the committee are playing an important role in arranging such events with simplicity. In the same spirit of dowry-free marriages, on Monday, March 30, a simple Nikah ceremony was held at Noorani Masjid in Painter Colony, Nahari Ka Naka, where Shahzad Ahmad Qureshi solemnized the marriage of his daughter Alveera Qureshi with Faizan Qureshi, son of Munnadeen. The Nikah was officiated by Mufti Abrar Ahmad. After the Nikah was performed according to Shariah, guests were welcomed with dates. Senior members of the community and many social workers attended the ceremony. Shahzad Ahmad Qureshi, Ashok Sharma, Iftikhar Ahmad, and family members warmly hosted the guests. Dates and sherbet were served to the attendees, and the bride was respectfully seen off from her home.
Restrict Extravagance, Spend on Education : Imran Qureshi
On this occasion, senior social worker and former National President of the All India Jamiatul Quresh Youth Wing, Imran Qureshi, said that due to growing social evils in society, many girls’ marriages are delayed, causing great distress to their families. Often families take loans to arrange marriages and remain burdened by debt for life. He urged senior members of the community to take the lead in such initiatives by curbing unnecessary expenses and focusing on children’s education, while adopting the Shariah-compliant approach of No Dowry, No Garden, No Dinner in marriages.
